Privacy Policy
GPS-Go for Android (com.yanerapps.gpsgo)
This policy explains what GPS-Go does with your data. GPS-Go is made by Yaner Apps, an independent developer studio ("we", "us"). It applies to the GPS-Go Android application and to this website.
In short: GPS-Go has no user accounts and no servers of our own. Your simulated locations, history, saved places, tags, and routes stay on your device. A few third parties receive data when you use specific features: Google Maps and Google Places (map display and place search), Geoapify (place search), your device's built-in geocoding service (street addresses), the map service behind a link you share into the app, and Google AdMob (advertising). If you buy a subscription, Google Play processes the purchase and payment; we never see your payment details. We never sell your personal information.
1. Data that stays on your device
The following is stored locally in the app's private storage and is never transmitted to us — we operate no server and have no way to read it:
- Simulated coordinates, custom names, favourites, and location history
- Tags, saved routes, and records of routes you have run
- Your local search history
- App settings and preferences (units, theme, joystick style, and so on)
You can delete this data inside the app at any time. Uninstalling GPS-Go removes all of it.
2. Your device's real location
GPS-Go requests location permission so it can show where you actually are on the map (the "Locate" button) and so it can register itself as a mock location provider. We never receive your real location, and the app never sends it anywhere on its own. Two exceptions follow from how features work: when you search for a place, the centre of the visible map is sent with the query to rank nearby results, except while the map is following your real position, when no position is sent with a search; and if you select the point where you actually are, its coordinates are sent to look up its street address — see section 3.
3. Data sent to third parties
GPS-Go transmits data off your device only in the situations below. Each is tied to a feature you actively use.
| Recipient | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps Platform | Map viewport coordinates and zoom level, your IP address, device and SDK information, a pseudonymous SDK identifier, map interaction events, and crash diagnostics from the Maps SDK | To render the map; Google also uses the diagnostics to keep the service working |
| Google Places | Your search text, the centre of the visible map (to bias results), your IP address, device and SDK information, and crash diagnostics from the Places SDK | To return place suggestions and their coordinates |
| Geoapify (OpenStreetMap data) | Your search text, the centre of the visible map (to bias results), and your IP address | To return place suggestions and their coordinates |
| Your device's geocoding service (operated by Google on most Android devices) | The coordinates of a point you select on the map, of a saved place when you open it, and of the start of a route when you save it; the place name in a shared link that carries no coordinates | To show a street address for that point, suggest a name, or find the coordinates of a shared place |
| The map service behind a shared link (Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, OpenStreetMap or Yandex) | The link you shared into GPS-Go and your IP address, sent to that service and to any page the link redirects to | To read the location a short link points to |
| Google AdMob and the Google User Messaging Platform | Your advertising ID (AAID) and app set ID, your IP address (from which Google may estimate a general location), device and app information, ad interactions, SDK diagnostics, and your consent choices | To request and display rewarded video, interstitial, and banner ads, and to record your consent |
Place searches are routed to Geoapify where possible and fall back to Google Places. Neither search provider receives your location history, saved places, or routes. Geoapify states that it generally keeps logs of successful requests for no longer than 24 hours.
Address lookups go through the geocoding service built into Android, not a service we chose; on most devices Google operates it, under the Google Privacy Policy. GPS-Go never sends your saved places, history or routes as a batch: each lookup covers only the one point you just selected, opened or saved. Shared links are read only when you share one into the app.
When a search result comes from Google Places, its coordinates are removed from your local search history 30 days after the search, as required by Google's terms. Results from Geoapify and coordinates you enter yourself are kept until you delete them.
4. Advertising
GPS-Go displays ads supplied by Google AdMob, including rewarded video ads, interstitial ads, and banner ads:
- Rewarded video ads: Never forced on you; only play after you tap a button offering extra daily usage in exchange for watching an ad.
- Interstitial ads: May appear only when you close the summary shown after a simulation session ends, at most four times a day and at least three minutes apart.
- Banner ads: Displayed inline within certain app screens.
No ads are ever shown in the floating joystick overlay or in the ongoing notification, and a running simulation is never interrupted by an ad.
We use Google AdMob only. We do not use any other ad network or mediation layer, and we have not added any analytics or crash-reporting SDK of our own. The Google SDKs described in section 3 collect their own diagnostics, which we do not receive. We never send your location history, saved places, or routes to any advertising service, and we never attach location data to an ad request as a custom parameter.
Consent (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, GPS-Go asks for your consent before ads are requested, using Google's certified User Messaging Platform. You can review or change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → About → Privacy Options. If you decline, the app remains fully usable; Google may still show limited, non-personalised ads, and whenever no ad is available the ad-gated action is granted without one.
US state privacy laws
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising in exchange for money. Residents of US states with applicable privacy laws are shown a notice with an opt-out choice, delivered through the same Privacy Options screen.
Controlling the advertising ID
Android lets you reset or delete your advertising ID at any time under Settings → Privacy → Ads (the exact path varies by device). Deleting it stops personalised advertising system-wide.
Google's handling of ad data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy; see also how Google uses data in AdMob. Geoapify's handling is governed by the Geoapify Privacy Policy. A map service that receives a shared link handles it under its own privacy policy.
5. Purchases and subscriptions
GPS-Go offers optional subscriptions. They are sold and billed entirely by Google Play: Google Play takes the payment, and your payment method and billing details stay with Google. We never receive your card number, billing address or other payment information, and GPS-Go has no server that receives your purchases.
When you start a purchase, GPS-Go tells Google Play which plan you chose, along with an identifier the app derives on your device with a one-way hash, which Google uses to help detect fraud. Google Play gives us order records for our sales in the Play Console, such as the order number, plan, price and date, which we use only for accounting, refunds and support.
To unlock what you paid for, the app asks Google Play which subscriptions you own and keeps a copy of the active one (its Google Play purchase token, plan, and when it was last confirmed) in private storage on your device, so paid features keep working for a while when you are offline. This copy is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, and is removed once Google Play no longer reports an active subscription. After a reinstall or on a new device, the app checks with Google Play again; you can also tap Restore purchases.
Cancellations, refunds, and changes of payment method are handled by Google Play under your Google account. Google's handling of payment data is governed by the Google Payments Privacy Notice.
6. Backup export files
GPS-Go can export your data as a file to a location you choose. That file contains your location history, saved places, tags, and routes in plain form. It is created only when you ask for it, it is not uploaded anywhere, and once it leaves the app it is yours to protect. Be careful where you store or send it.
Android's own cloud backup may include app data if you have enabled it on your device. That backup is managed by Google under your Google account, not by us.
7. What we do not do
- No user accounts, sign-in, or profiles
- No servers operated by us, and therefore no copy of your data held by us
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs added by us
- No sale of personal information
- No tracking of other people — GPS-Go simulates only your own device's location
8. Children
GPS-Go is intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. Its Google Play target audience is set to adults only.
9. Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives on your device, you control its lifetime. The app deletes history older than its retention window: 30 days on the free plan, or the window you choose with Pro, including keeping it indefinitely. Every record can be deleted individually or in bulk from within the app. Uninstalling removes everything. There is nothing for us to delete on our side, since we hold nothing.
Data held by Google, Geoapify or a shared-link map service as a result of the requests described in section 3 is subject to that recipient's own retention practices and policies.
10. Security
All network requests made by the app use HTTPS. Local data is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read on a non-rooted device.
11. Additional information for the EEA, UK and Switzerland
This section gives the information required by the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection.
Controller
The controller for the processing described in this policy is Yaner Yang, publishing as Yaner Apps, reachable at yanerapps@gmail.com. Google, Geoapify, the operator of your device's geocoding service, and the map service behind a shared link act as independent controllers for the data they receive, under their own policies.
Purposes and legal bases
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Showing the map, returning place search results, looking up street addresses, and reading shared links | Map viewport, search text, map centre, coordinates of a point you select, open or save, a shared link, IP address, device and SDK information | Necessary to provide the service you ask for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) |
| Providing a subscription you bought | Your Google Play purchase status and purchase token, the hashed identifier sent with a purchase, and the order records Google Play provides | Necessary to perform the contract you entered into when subscribing (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Keeping the map and search services reliable | SDK crash and usage diagnostics, pseudonymous SDK identifier | Legitimate interests in a working, secure app (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Personalised ads, and storing or reading ad identifiers on your device | Advertising ID, app set ID, IP address, ad interactions | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time in Privacy Options |
| Non-personalised ads, ad measurement and fraud prevention | IP address, device and app information, ad interactions | Legitimate interests in funding a free app and preventing ad fraud (Art. 6(1)(f)), and your consent where the law requires it for storage on your device |
| Answering your emails | Your email address, your message, and the device details a bug report fills in for you (device model, Android version, app version, plan and language), which you can edit before sending | Legitimate interests in responding to you (Art. 6(1)(f)); we delete the correspondence once the matter is closed, and within 12 months at the latest |
Data that stays on your device (section 1) is not processed by us at all. You are not required to provide any personal data. Without a network connection the map and place search do not work, and if you decline consent you see only limited ads. We make no decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you; with your consent, Google may use ad data to personalise the ads you see.
International transfers
Geoapify processes requests in data centres in the EU. Google may process data in the United States and other countries, relying on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and on Standard Contractual Clauses where needed (see Google's data transfer frameworks). A map service that receives a shared link may process it outside your country, under its own transfer safeguards. We are based outside the EEA, but we receive none of the data described in section 3.
Your rights under the GDPR
You have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or work; in the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office, and in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner. Section 12 explains how to exercise these rights.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Since GPS-Go stores your data only on your device, you can exercise these rights directly in the app. For anything related to advertising data held by Google, use the Privacy Options screen in the app and Google's own controls. If you need help, write to yanerapps@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version is published on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes affecting how data is shared will also be noted in the app's release notes.
